Close encounters of the moose kind

This young bull moose wandered into our camp on the second day...
...I guess this campsite was right on a moose trail.
We scared another one later in the day washing dishes.
(Let me clarify - WE were washing dishes, not the moose. He got within 10 feet of us before K.C. and the moose looked up and noticed one another at the same moment. Much scrambling on the moose and my part ensued.)
*Kids, don't try this at home:
apparently, moose can be super dangerous,
but Jr. wasn't too threatening.*

Montana Antiques

I love photographing antique shops - every area of the US, and other countries (I'm looking at you, Bulgaria) - has its own tchotchke flavor. It's an anthropological adventure...

Home Sweet Modern Home

Brian, a friend of mine, just completed primary construction on his awesome home in Bozeman, MT. K.C and I were lucky enough to be the first house guests.
There are all sorts of wonderful industrial/modern touches, like these stair lights that Brian designed and built.

Inside the Wind Cave...the water was just above freezing.
Underneath the waterfall, cooling off.

Weather in Idaho

day one we try to go for a hike in the Big Holes area - and thank god we were still in the truck when grape-tomato-sized hail started raining down... and the next day...
Darby Canyon, near K.C.'s house.
This was easily one of the most beautiful hikes I've ever gone on.

Pictures from canoe camping in Grand Teton National Park, WY

K.C. paddling up Leigh Lake to our first campsite...
This was the view from our second campsite. Seriously.
This picture whispers sweet nothings to my soul every time I look at it.

The foot photo and the resulting drawing. K.C. is cleaning out the pellet stove and dealing with a cold, so this vacation day is officially a drawing day for me...

We *heart* our new REI tent

Oh, the soul building joy of camping in the backcountry. I think we saw five people or so during our two days camping on Leigh Lake.
